Our donations reach £500,000
It’s been nearly 7 years since we began supporting Action Against Hunger.
When we first introduced our ‘Ip per pack’ donation, we had no idea how quickly our donations would mount up or what great things we’d be able to help international humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger achieve.
So we’re absolutely delighted to announce that we’ve just reached the £500,000 donation mark!! Yes that’s right- it means that we’ve sold over 50 million packs! So it really is true when they say that the pennies really do matter.
Who are we helping?
Today, sadly, there are over 2 million children around the world whose lives are lost due to severe hunger. The good news is that solutions do exist and that’s why we’re so committed to donating as much as possible to Action Against Hunger to help save children’s lives by putting an end to malnutrition.
This collaboration motivates our team, resonates with the people who buy our food and reminds us all to be even more appreciative of the food we eat. In celebrating this milestone, we look forward to redoubling our future efforts and helping to end hunger for good! – Simon Day, unearthed® founder
Over the last few years we’ve donated our pennies to Action Against Hunger programmes in Liberia, Zambia and Mali and now we’re supporting a fantastic nutrition project in Baran, a rural area in Rajasthan, in Northern India, where a staggering I in 5 children are suffering with malnutrition. Despite the huge economic development that has taken place in recent years, 40% of undernourished children around the world live in India.
How many people have we supported?
The programme in Baran aims to combat malnutrition through community-managed programmes. This involves screening for malnutrition of all children under five and treatment at community health centres. Over 27,000 children have been screened since July 2015 and 1,700 have been treated for malnutrition and nursed back to health.
The programme has provided education for parents or grandparents so that they can learn about the right sort of healthy foods to feed their children to prevent them from becoming malnourished. Community health workers have also been trained to identify malnourished children and ensure they get the treatment that they need.
This what Simon, founder of unearthed® has to say about it, “Reaching £500k is a chance for all of us at unearthed® to take stock of what we have achieved. From the start of our partnership with Action Against Hunger we were inspired by their objective to end malnutrition and the link with our own mission – to share our enjoyment of food – has always seemed natural. This collaboration motivates our team, resonates with the people who buy our food and reminds us all to be even more appreciative of the food we eat. In celebrating this milestone, we look forward to redoubling our future efforts and helping to end hunger for good!”
Thanks from Action Against Hunger
And what do Action Against Hunger think about it all? Well in a recent visit to the UK, Arish Sayid, Executive Director for Action Against Hunger India came to see us and this was his message for all of our unearthed® customers…
So keep buying those packs as every little really does make a difference. To read more about the work which is underway in India, head to our charity page here.
In the meantime we’re off to celebrate!!
